Striking Chery Omoda 4 is a baby Lamborghini Urus built for Australian tastes: Chinese brand chases the BYD Atto 2 and Kia EV3

Chery has given us another look at its all-new 2026 Omoda 4 at the Chinese car-making group’s annual product reveal.

Built to size up the likes of the BYD Atto 2 and the Kia EV3 at a low price point, sales are starting in 2026.

Originally unwrapped back in April as the Omoda C3, the new small SUV sports a new nameplate but remains identical.

The Omoda 4 has been created using Omoda’s new ‘Cyber Mecha’ design language that is said to draw influence from Japanese manga or anime.

In reality, the Omoda 4 looks inspired by the significantly more expensive Lamborghini Urus.

That’s no bad thing as Chery execs admit its latest creation has been deliberately tailored to appeal to European and, presumably, Australian tastes.

Confirmed to be available with both combustion and EV power, the new Omoda 4 shares its T1X platform with the bigger Omoda 5, suggesting some powertrains might be borrowed from the bigger SUV.

Inside, the Omoda 4 gets a sporty interior that is claimed to have been inspired by a starship.

There’s a large portrait touchscreen that incorporates different themes that reflect the small SUV’s character, while ahead of the driver is a thin digital instrument cluster.

Appealing to a youthful audience, the Omoda 4 comes with wireless controllers to play games using the touchscreen.

The centre console even includes storage space created for portable gaming devices.

The cheeky Urus references continue within, the Omoda 4 bagging a start button located under a Lambo-like cover.

Meanwhile, faux carbon-fibre interior trim and ambient lighting are said to jazz up the cabin at night.

Also shown off at the same annual summit was the larger Omoda 7 that has been designed to slot into the Chery’s premium brand’s line-up below the Omoda 9 but above the Omoda 5.

The mid-size SUV was also revealed back in April and is built on a stretched version of the Omoda 5 platform.

It comes with the firm’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) that pairs 95km of all-electric driving with a total range of more than 1000km on the WLTP test cycle when its small 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine chimes in.

Producing a combined 165kW of power, the mid-size Omoda 7 can launch from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds.

At the Chery Group conference it was revealed the Omoda 7 will come with the firm’s latest Automatic Parking Assistance (APA) system that can remote auto-park in more than 1000 different parking scenarios.

Chery Australia has yet to confirm either the new entry Omoda 4 or the larger plug-in hybrid Omoda 7 for our market but both are expected to arrive on sale next year.
