Six-seat Tesla Model Y L officially confirmed for Australia: Stretched sales star here soon
Tesla has confirmed the six-seat Model Y L will be sold in Australia and New Zealand, expanding the line-up of the country’s best-selling electric vehicle with a larger family-focused version expected to arrive later this year.
The confirmation follows weeks of speculation after homologation documents surfaced locally and the stretched Model Y L debuted in China, where it is already being produced at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory.
Tesla says the new variant will offer greater interior space and seating capacity than the existing five-seat Model Y, thanks to a longer wheelbase and increased overall height that allows for a proper third row of seats.

The new seating layout enables the SUV to carry six occupants and is designed to appeal to buyers looking for a larger electric family vehicle while retaining the familiar Model Y platform.
The announcement effectively confirms the expansion of the Model Y family first flagged earlier this year, when Tesla acknowledged a six-seat version of its top-selling electric SUV was under consideration for the Australian market.
Tesla has not yet confirmed range, performance figures or detailed specifications for the Model Y L, but says further information — including pricing — will be released soon.

Industry sources expect local pricing to be announced as early as Friday.
The arrival of the six-seat model will add another option to Tesla’s most popular vehicle line, which currently consists of the five-seat Model Y in Premium Rear-Wheel Drive ($58,900), Premium Long Range AWD ($68,900) and Performance AWD ($89,400) trims in Australia.
Tesla also confirmed the Model Y L will be covered by the company’s new five-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for Australian buyers, alongside an eight-year battery warranty.
Once it arrives, the Model Y L will give Tesla its first three-row electric SUV offering in Australia and place it more directly into competition with emerging family EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9.
