Nissan turns over new Leaf: Updated EV set for mid-year launch in Australia
Nissan has readied a new weapon for the EV war, unveiling an updated Leaf model that will launch in Australia in the second half of 2022.
But this is definitely evolution over revolution, with — at this stage — most of the model’s important bits (think motor, battery options and range) unchanged in this update.
Instead, Nissan has focused on the look and feel of the new model, promising “more eye-catching style and innovative technology”.
In real terms, that means a tweaked exterior design and new alloy wheel options, as well as the inclusion of ProPILOT safety equipment and an infotainment offering that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via NissanConnect, as well as remote access to functions like climate control.
“The Nissan Leaf has always been about making advanced technology and the thrill of electric driving accessible to everyone. Leaf has been designed around families’ needs to offer seamless connectivity and an efficient powertrain,” said Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President, Product Strategy and Pricing, Nissan AMIEO region.
Leading the exterior changes are the option of new 16- and 17-inch alloy wheel designs, now featuring a black insert for a sportier look, as well as a new Nissan logo, and some tweaks to the overall appearance.
What appears unchanged is the Leaf’s battery and motor pairings, with the longest 385km range still delivered by the e+ model’s 62kWh battery pack. Also expected to arrive unchanged is the regular Leaf’s 40kWh battery, which delivers a 270km driving range.
Nissan is yet to confirm pricing on the new Leaf, but for a guide, current models start at $49,990 for the Leaf, and $60,490 for the Leaf e+.
