Mercedes-Benz EQE pricing and specifications announced
The Mercedes-Benz EQE has gone on sale in Australia with three model variants priced from $134,900 before on-road costs.
That price is for the EQE300, which gets a single electric motor powering the rear wheels and making 180kW and 550Nm. It’s claimed to reach 100km/h in 7.3 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz quotes a driving range of 626km, although that’s using the less relevant NEDC testing standard; the more realistic WLTP range for the EQE300 is 550km from its 89kWh battery pack.
The EQE is a large four-door sedan that provides an EV alternative to the E-Class sedan, which is priced from $106,600 before on-road costs. The EQE shares its architecture and electric drive systems with the longer and larger Mercedes-Benz EQS electric limousine that was the second best selling upper large luxury sedan in Australia in 2022.
While the EQE brings an EV premium, it’s also better specified than the petrol-powered E200 from the Mercedes-Benz ICE family. And at $134,900 before on-roads for the EQE300 it still undercuts the Genesis Electrified G80 that it will compete with.
Standard equipment for the EQE includes 20-inch alloy wheels, head-up display, augmented reality satellite-navigation, wireless charging, Burmester audio system, 360-degree camera, and a fingerprint scanner to adjust driving modes. There’s also speed sign recognition and a healthy range of driver assistance safety features.
The EQE will also be offered in two more powerful variants, the EQE350 4Matic and EQE53 AMG 4Matic+.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE350 4Matic ($154,900 plus on-road costs) adds a front electric motor to provide all-wheel drive traction and a combined output of 215kW and 765Nm. It lowers the 0-100km/h time to 6.3 seconds while the WLTP range is 507km. A subtle rear lip spoiler distinguishes it from the outside.
Topping the EQE lineup is the AMG-badged EQE53 4Matic+.
It’s priced from $214,900 plus on-road costs and provides an electric alternative to the V8-powered AMG models that have long been the performance heroes in the Mercedes-Benz showroom.
With 460kW and 950Nm from its dual electric motors it has more grunt than most of those V8s and can scorch to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.
WLTP driving range for the EQE53 drops to 459km.
The EQE53 gets a more upmarket interior courtesy of Nappa leather trim and AMG steering wheel.
There’s also an Airmatic adjustable air suspension system and rear wheel steering to improve high speed stability and low speed maneuverability.
As with the larger EQS, the Mercedes-Benz EQE gets an industry-leading 10-year, 250,000km battery warranty.
The EQE sedan will be joined by the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV around the middle of 2023.
