Mazda confirms production electric SUV on the way: EZ-60 is a Tesla Model Y rival developed in China with Changan
Mazda is joining with its Chinese partner Changan Automobile to produce an all-new mid-size electric SUV.
And as a preview, the Japanese brand has teased its first picture of the Mazda EZ-60 SUV it will launch in the coming months.
Following in the tyre tracks of the Mazda EZ-6 electric sedan that was built to battle the Tesla Model 3, the new silhouette posted on Chinese social media suggests the next Mazda EZ-60 will be heavily inspired by the Mazda Arata concept unveiled at last year’s Beijing motor show.

Featuring an almost identical side profile to the Arata, the new concept will make a radical break from the design language used for Mazda’s SUVs, like the CX-60.

Beneath the skin, the EZ-60 will sit on the Changan EPA1 architecture, which means it will be heavily related to the EZ-6 sedan and the Deepal S07 which arrived locally in late 2024.
When it lands, it’s thought the Mazda EZ-60 will come with the option of either a 68.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery or a more energy dense 80kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) power pack.
There’s no word on power but the Mazda is tipped to share the Deepal S07’s single e-motor that produces 160kW and 330Nm of torque.
If so, expect a 0-100km/h dash of around 7.9 seconds with a range of around 475km on the WLTP test cycle.
Like the EZ-6, a plug-in hybrid version will also be offered in China that should combine a 68.8kWh battery with a 1.5-litre combustion engine.

Inside, expect the EZ-60 to mirror the EZ-6’s premium cabin with large screens and a selection of materials aimed squarely at German rivals.
There’s no word yet if the EZ-60 SUV or EZ-6 – which has been renamed Mazda 6e for Europe – will be launched Down Under.
But both cars’ arrival could be timed with the introduction in right-hand drive markets like the UK.
