Lower-priced longer-range single-motor Polestar 3 to undercut BMW iX, Benz EQE and Lexus RZ

Polestar Australia has confirmed a new rear-wheel drive Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor SUV will join the line-up later this year tipped to be priced from around $110,000.

Created to sit below the two dual-motor Polestar 3 variants set above $130,000, that price will ensure it undercuts logical rivals such as the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQE and Lexus RZ450e..

The new single motor version comes with a long 650km WLTP range thanks to its larger 111kWh battery. However, that figure is just 19km further than the Long Range Dual Motor.

Combined with a 220kW/490Nm rear e-motor, acceleration is brisk rather than quick with 0-100km/h taking 7.8 seconds – a long way off the 5.0 seconds for the same sprint claimed by the 360kW/840Nm dual-motor version.

However, maximum DC charging is up to the same maximum rate of 250kW, with a 10-80 per cent top-up taking 30 minutes.

Locally, Polestar has yet to announce full specification for the MY25 Polestar 3 line-up but it is set to come fully loaded with both its trick dampers and uprated Brembo brakes standard.

Exterior paint will be limited to just six choices.

“With the Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3 we offer consumers a new entry-point for our flagship electric SUV,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
