Jeep EV journey begins with images of 2023 electric SUV
Jeep has released the first images of its upcoming electric SUV during the announcement of its EV-focused 2030 strategic plan.
There are only two images of the new Jeep EV – one front, one rear – showing a compact SUV that appears to be more about the suburbs than the tracks and trails the brand has built its reputation on.
Jeep’s trademark seven-slot grille takes pride of place on the modern face of the as-yet unnamed model, although the slots are filled in to smooth air flow.
A blue “e” and blue pinstripes reinforce the electric flowing beneath the skin, although the new Jeep is also expected to be created with internal combustion engine options.

A blue “e” makes an appearance on the rump, too, which incorporates LED tail lights.
The rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar and black cladding skirting the lower surround of the car reinforce its SUV positioning, even if its proportions appear close to a hatchback.
There’s no word on what’s beneath the skin of the new Jeep EV, although it’ll clearly be shared with other vehicles from the Stellantis group; that includes brands such as Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, Alfa Romeo and Fiat.
In teasing the new electric Jeep Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the company was “setting the course for 100 percent of sales in Europe and 50 percent of sales in the United States to be battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) by the end of this decade”.
“We plan to have more than 75 BEVs and reach global annual BEV sales of five million vehicles by 2030.”
“Today, we are thrilled to present the Jeep brand’s first-ever fully electric SUV launching in early 2023 and a preview of the new Ram 1500 BEV pickup truck arriving in 2024.”
Jeep has also previously showcased an electric version of its iconic Wrangler. Overseas it also has a family of 4xe plug-in hybrid models, including the Renegade, Compass, Grand Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer and Wrangler.
The Grand Cherokee 4xe has been confirmed for Australia.
As for BEV Jeeps coming Down Under, expect more information later this year. A Jeep spokesperson said: “We’re excited about the new products that are coming out and we’ll be releasing an electrication plan later this year.”
