Jaecoo J5 offer extended: Introductory price for compact electric SUV turns screws on BYD Atto 3, MG S5

Jaecoo has extended its promotional launch pricing for the J5 EV after what the brand says has been strong early demand, with another 1000 customers now eligible for the $36,990 drive-away offer and free premium paint.

The extension was by Omoda Jaecoo Australia chief commercial officer Roy Munoz, following the initial allocation being taken up after order books opened in late December.

“We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from dealers and the general public,” Munoz said.

“The order books have been quickly filled since they opened in late December, so we were more than happy to extend the offer to allow more people to get behind the wheel of our latest new energy vehicle.”

At $36,990 drive-away with premium paint included, the J5 EV sits among the most affordable electric SUVs on sale in Australia and places it directly into contention with other budget-focused electric high-riders.

Buyers considering the J5 are likely to also be weighing up alternatives such as the BYD Atto 2 and Atto 3, MG’s small electric SUV offerings including the S5 EV, the Geely EX5, the GAC Aion V and other incoming compact electric SUVs from Chinese brands.

In addition to the pricing and paint incentive, Jaecoo has confirmed a new black interior option for the J5 EV, available to the first 2000 customers.

The J5 sits at the entry point of the Jaecoo line-up, positioned below the mid-size J7 and larger J8 SUVs, with petrol and hybrid versions of the J5 due to arrive later in the year. For now, the focus remains on the battery-electric variant.

The J5 EV offers a claimed driving range of 402km and can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes using a DC fast charger.

As noted in EV Central’s recent review, the J5’s appeal is not limited to price alone. Even at this entry point, the equipment list is extensive, with features typically seen on more expensive vehicles including a large central infotainment screen, heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting and wireless phone charging.

Inside, Jaecoo also highlights the use of a silicone-based synthetic leather material designed to be antibacterial, wear-resistant and easier to clean than conventional upholstery, something the brand has promoted as being particularly suitable for pet owners.
