Is this Japan’s cheapest EV yet? Honda Super EV set to fight BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora

Honda has given us our first glimpse of its battery-powered Honda e city replacement ahead of its debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 13.

Claimed to be both affordable and “fun to drive” and created for global markets, the new all-electric SUV looks heavily-inspired by the cute Nissan Cube with blocky styling, a short bonnet and upright screen.

If it comes to Australia, the new Honda Super EV would undoubtedly be targeted at the likes of the BYD Dolphin ($29,990 plus on-roads) at the rock bottom end of the EV market.

Honda has been hesitant to provide any details of its latest EV other than to guarantee it will be both “small and sporty”.

The latter suggests a quick – well, quick-ish – blast up Goodwood’s famous hill climb may be on the cards.

Unwrapped beside the sporty Prelude coupe and the EV Fun motorcycle, EV Urban scooter, the Super EV will also line up beside the firm’s new flagship 0 Series SUV.

It’s not known if the baby electric SUV will share anything with its new state-of-the-art 0 sibling that will herald the firm’s latest EV tech when it arrives next year.

Previously, Honda had announced the radically-styled 0 Series family will begin with both a sedan and an SUV and will then quickly expand to seven models by 2030.

It is as yet unclear if the Super EV is included in that number.
