Giddy up! Slow-selling 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E gets performance boost and longer range in fresh assault on Tesla Model Y

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E will up its efforts to steal sales against the likes of the best-selling Tesla Model Y with new upgrades designed to enhance performance, increase the driving range and reduce the amount of time it takes to charge.

Still to be confirmed for a launch Down Under, the Blue Oval’s first all-electric SUV has struggled to make a sales impact in the first three months of 2024 with just 181 finding homes, compared to the incredible 6835 Tesla Model Ys sold over the same period.

As part of the updates all models now come with a new electric rear motor. While total power remains capped at the same as the one it replaces, acceleration should step-up thanks to the motor’s ability to churn out an extra 95Nm of torque.

The Select and Premium models raise their torque peak from 430Nm to a more muscular 525Nm, slashing the 0-100km/h sprint by around 0.2sec.

Unusually, initial specs suggest the dual-motor GT version will come with 813Nm, which is down from 860Nm.

As part of the revisions Ford has also introduced a new Performance Upgrade pack to the GT that boosts power and torque to 385kW and a stonking 949Nm of torque.

With the extra power and torque the 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time falls from 3.8 seconds to just 3.3 seconds.

The US market Mustang Mach-E GT now gets Ford Performance front seats, MagneRide adaptive dampers and Brembo brakes that were once only offered if you ticked the box for the old Performance Edition upgrade.

Ford also claims the revisions improve range but the extra 32km increase is based on the US EPA cycle, rather than the WLTP testing regime.

Fast charge comes courtesy of a software tweak that manages the electric powertrain’s thermal management system.

It  has shaved an impressive nine minutes off the time it takes of a 10 to 80 per cent fast DC charge. However, the new 32-minute time still lags many competitors in the segment.

Other improvements include an updated infotainment, new displays and improved keyless entry.

In the US a new Bronze Appearance Pack also becomes an option, adding bronze 20-inch rim and a Bronze mesh front grille, plus new Mach-E 4X door graphics and rear GT badging.

Ford Australia is expected to release more on the updated Ford Mustang Mach-E in the coming weeks.
