Geely’s Aussie model expansion: New sedan and SUV to share spotlight with EX2 at Melbourne motor show

Geely is signalling a significant expansion of its Australian line-up.

It will use April’s 2026 Melbourne Motor Show to showcase one confirmed and two potential new additions alongside its existing models.

The Chinese brand will have five-vehicle display for the event, headlined by the Australian debut of the EX2 electric hatch (picturd top).

It will be shown publicly for the first time ahead of its planned local showroom arrival in the third quarter of 2026.

The EX2 is a key model for Geely globally as well as Australia. It was the best-selling vehicle in China in 2025, recording more than 460,000 sales and topping the market for seven consecutive months.

The EX2 will be Geely’s cheapest model in Australia and one of the most affordable EVs sold here outright. A starting price at or below $30,000 is likely.

Also appearing on the stand will be a yet-to-be-confirmed sedan and SUV, both under evaluation for the Australian market.

Geely says it will use the Melbourne show to gather customer feedback on the two models as it considers further expanding its local portfolio.

So what could the secret two be? Geely export models to Australia come from the Galaxy line-up and there are plenty to choose from.

Possible sedans could include the freshly launched Starshine 8 large sedan that’s available as both PHEV and PHEV, Starshine 7 PHEV, Starshine 6 PHEV, A7 EV and PHEV and the smaller L6.

On the SUV side there’s the new M7 PHEV, the larger six-seat M9 PHEV and perhaps even the brand new Battleship 700, although that seems unlikely given it’s only started being previewed in China.

Whatever the mystery double-act are, they will join the brand’s existing Australian offerings, the updated EX5 electric SUV and the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV.

Both models have recorded strong early results since going on-sale, contributing to more than 6600 deliveries since the brand launched locally in March 2025.

Geely has been one of the most conservative Chinese brands to come to Australia in recent years Australia.

Most chinese brands have expanded far faster. GAC, which has only been in Australia five months, already has four models on-sale.

Previewing up to three new models might be in its short to medium-term future is a bold signal of expansion.

The Melbourne Motor Show will run from April 10 to 12 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
