Geely EX5 upgrade announced: More range, more equipment, more dollars

Geely has upgraded its EX5 electric SUV with a larger battery and extra standard equipment, strengthening the value proposition of one of Australia’s most affordable electric medium SUVs.

Now arriving in local showrooms from China, the revised EX5 replaces its previous 60.22kWh battery with a larger 68.39kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) unit, delivering up to 45km more WLTP driving range depending on variant.

The EX5 Complete increases from 430km to 475km, while the Inspire rises from 410km to 450km.

The changes bring a $1000 price increase across the range, lifting the EX5 Complete to $41,990 and the Inspire to $45,990 before on-road costs.

Even with the adjustment, the EX5 remains among the most affordable electric medium SUVs on sale in Australia — a positioning that has helped the model gain early momentum.

More than 4000 units were sold locally in 2025, placing the EX5 within the top five best-selling battery-electric vehicles nationally according to VFACTS data.

Mechanically, the update centres on range and ownership value rather than performance changes. Both variants continue with an electric motor producing 160kW and 320Nm driving the front wheels, with energy consumption rated at 16.0kWh/100km for the Complete and 16.9kWh/100km for the Inspire under WLTP testing.

Charging capability remains unchanged at up to 11kW AC and 100kW DC, while the EX5 continues to offer vehicle-to-load functionality and now lists vehicle-to-vehicle power sharing capability rated at 6.6kW.

New standard equipment includes a cargo blind and portable Mode 2 charging cable, while Jungle Green has been added as a premium paint option.

The EX5 retains its existing safety suite, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring, supported by a seven-airbag layout.

Dimensionally, the EX5 sits in the centre of the medium SUV segment at 4615mm long with a 2750mm wheelbase, targeting mainstream family EV buyers.

The battery update follows ongoing over-the-air software refinements aimed at improving everyday usability.

Geely says the EX5’s battery uses its “Short Blade” design to improve packaging efficiency and cabin space, while Australian buyers continue to receive a seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year unlimited-kilometre battery warranty.

The revised EX5 arrives as Geely approaches its first anniversary of sales in Australia, with the electric SUV remaining the brand’s core local model in an increasingly competitive and price-sensitive EV market.

The small EX2 electric SUV is the next Geely model confirmed for Australia.
