Form a queue: 2024 MG Cyberster now available … if you’ve got at least $100,000
Pre-orders for the 2024 MG Cyberster are now being taken in Australia ahead of the electric sports car’s fourth quarter arrival – but it won’t be cheap.
Australian pricing for the battery-electric powered spiritual successor for the MG B roadster have yet to be announced but the Chinese-owned brand said that the MG Cyberster will start at somewhere “between $100,000 and $150,000” plus on-road costs for the flagship 77kWh dual-motor all-wheel drive version.
At that money, that makes the MG Cyberster the most expensive MG ever, although its price means the droptop sports car will be aligned with the current combustion-powered Porsche 718 Boxster, that’s range starts from around $135,000 (plus on-roads).

Helping justify the six-figure price tag, the MG Cyberster is seriously quick and comes powered with two e-motors that combined produce 400kW and 725Nm, enough to launch it from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds.
Those placing pre-orders will have the choice of five exterior paint colours (beige, grey, silver, red and yellow) that can be combined with a black or red roof and the choice of either a black and red interior or a white and grey cabin. The dramatic scissor doors are included.
Measuring in at 4535mm long, 1913mm wide, 1329mm tall and rides a 2690mm wheelbase, making it bigger than a Mazda MX-5 (3915mm, 1735mm, 1225mm) although tipping the scales at 1985kg it’s almost twice the weight of the smaller Japanese roadster.
An official WLTP range figure has yet to be released but on the more lenient Chinese CLTC test cycle the MG roadster can cover up to 579km on a single charge.
But there is some pricing relief around the corner for the Cyberster.
“There could be a more affordable variant down the line,” MG Australia senior product and strategy manager Akshat Abuja told EV Central.
“With the Cyberster we’re launching with our 77kWh (battery) all-wheel drive variant, but we are in discussions with headquarters to bring in maybe another variant or whatever down the line.”
That cheaper, less powerful version is hotly tipped to arrive later. It’s expected to get a single electric motor with 224kW of power and come equipped with a smaller 64kWh battery.
It’s not known if the entry MG will still come with its bigger brother’s high-performance Brembo brake package and electric roof.
“We’re really excited to be opening dealer orders and our official register for your interest for our all-electric roadster, the Cyberster, featuring signature scissor doors as envisioned by Carl Gotham and his MG London design team,” said MG Motor Australia sales manager Brad Chruszcz.
According to MG Motor Australia only a limited number of Cybersters will be imported with demand expected to outstrip supply.
Soon after it launches the MG Cyberster will face fierce competition from both the next-gen all-electric 718 Porsche Boxster and the inbound luxurious battery-powered Maserati GranCabrio Folgore.
MG Cyberster has a roof that folds in 15 seconds and uses two electric motors to blast to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds… that’s a very fast roof!
