Exposed: Luxury Range Rover EV shown off testing as it nears production
The 2024 Range Rover Electric has been shown off undisguised undergoing final winter testing and the big news is it looks just like the regular combustion version.
The only changes from its transition from petrol or turbo-diesel include a smoother front grille and the addition of a new charging port behind the rear right door.
According to Land Rover, as well as looking the same, the brand’s first-ever EV has also been subjected to the same torturous testing as any other combustion-powered Rangie, with prototypes tested around the world in extreme climates.

Instead of matching the rest of the Range Rover line-up for off-road capability, engineers say its new all-electric powertrain delivers more grip, better stability, finesse and performance on low grip surfaces thanks to its next-gen electronics that are 100 times faster to react than traditional ABS-based systems.
The British brand stresses that its complete powertrain – including its battery, transmission, motors, inverters and controllers – are all produced in house by its parent, JLR, and thanks to this all have been perfectly tailored to a large luxurious SUV.
The result, is the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created”,
No further details have been released but previously the Tata-owned brand promised the Range Rover EV would deliver V8-levels of performance, could wade up to 850mm and features an 800-volt electrical architecture that supports ultra-fast charging of more than 300kW.
Despite opening the order books back in December 2023, there’s still no word when the Range Rover Electric will go on sale nor when it will land in Australian dealerships.
But it’s thought it should arrive before the end of this year.
Commenting on the latest tease JLR product engineering boss Thomas Mueller said: “Range Rover with electric power – means customary Range Rover luxury, refinement and capability plus near-silent fully electric propulsion; with effortlessly smooth and relaxed journeys”.
