Easy riders: Ford Mustang Mach-E tech applied to Blue Oval’s new pushbike range

Ford has announced two all-new battery-electric takes on the Ford Bronco and the Ford Mustang – but before you get excited about a zero-emission rugged off-roader or supercar-quick coupe and convertible, we’re talking about e-bikes.

Beginning with Ford Bronco eBike, Ford says that its first two-wheel offering draws design cues from the latest reborn rugged SUV of the same name.

Said to blend a new dual suspension system and a comfortable motorcycle-style seat, Ford says that the first of its two bikes come powered with a single electric motor that produces just 0.75kW (about one horsepower) and 85Nm of torque.

Claimed to offer a riding experience that mirror that of the current Bronco, the new bike is said to have a range of around 60 miles (97km).

Charging using a domestic socket takes around 3.5 hours.

Ford hasn’t released the weight for the new Bronco but says it has developed a four-piston hydraulic brake package, while Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M tyres are said to provide ample grip.

Ford Mustang eBike — The Mustang eBike has very little to do with a Mustang car, but it does look cool!

To monitor things such as speed, battery life and range there’s a neat full-colour LED display.

Available now to order in the US market the Bronco eBike is priced from a hefty $4500 ($A6850) with the only option being premium paint for $390 ($A590) for one of the 10 premium paint finishes.

Ford will also offer buyers two Mustang E-Bikes, one of which has been created to help mark the 60th anniversary of the iconic sports car.

Featuring an identical motor to the Bronco eBike, the Mustang gets Pirelli Angel semi-slick tyres for better handling on-road, although the top speed is limited to the same 45km/h as its more rugged alternative.

Bagging a more conventional design than the Bronco, the Mustang misses out on the comfy motorcycle seat but still comes with the useful LCD display mounted within the handlebars.

Pricing is fractionally more palatable for the Mustang E-Bike with it starting at US$4000 (about $6000).

There’s no word yet on availability via Ford dealers in Australia.
