Confirmed: GAC Aion UT electric hatchback headed for Australia in 2026. Another sharply-priced Chinese compact EV is on the way
GAC Australia has confirmed the all-electric Aion UT compact hatchback as the fourth model locked in for its Australian line-up.
The city-focused EV is due to arrive in local showrooms sometime between April 1 and June 30 2026.
The Aion UT will become the second battery-electric vehicle offered by GAC in Australia, joining the recently launched Aion V SUV.

Full technical specifications, battery options and equipment details for Australian-delivered vehicles have yet to be announced. They will come closer to launch.
Depending on the market, the Aion UT is offered with a choice of a 100kW or 150kW e-motor driving the front wheels, multiple LGP battery options and an NEDC driving range between 400km-500km.
It measures up at 4270mm long, 1850mm wide, 1575mm high and has a 2750mm wheelbase.
On the basis of all that and GAC’s keen price positioning with its other Australian models, a sub-$30,000 starting price for the Aion UT is possible.
Penned by GAC’s Milan Design Centre, the Aion UT features a fastback profile, two-tone floating roof and pixel-style exterior graphics aimed at giving the car a playful, tech-savvy character.

GAC also highlights what it describes as the world’s first “eyebrow-style” headlamp design. Despite its compact footprint, the brand says the Aion UT will offer competitive cabin space for its segment.
The confirmation of the Aion UT comes as GAC continues to roll out its broader Australian strategy. The state-owned Chinese manufacturer, formally known as Guangzhou Automobile Group, launched locally late last year with a three-model range comprising the Aion V electric SUV, the M8 plug-in hybrid people-mover and the Emzoom compact petrol SUV.
Kevin Shu, President, GAC Australia, said, “Our strategy of ‘In Australia, For Australia’, will see GAC bring more than 10 models to the Australian market in the coming five years.
“The GAC Aion UT showcases the strength of GAC’s product portfolio, combining elegant design with clever technology that genuinely enhances the daily lives of its owners.

“I have no doubt this model will resonate strongly with Australians seeking an intelligent, city-focused vehicle to navigate the nation’s iconic urban landscapes. We look forward to continuing to grow along with our customers here in Australia”.
GAC rapid expansion in Australia will include EVs and plug-in hybrids alongside internal combustion offerings. A ute is also part of the brand’s future product roadmap, along with plans to grow beyond its initial 30-dealer launch network.
It has previously decakred its aim to be a top 10 seller in Australia before the end of ther decade.
