Kia Stinger reborn as an EV! Cut-price Porsche Taycan fighter previewed

Kia is gearing up to replace its fast four-door Stinger with a wild new futuristic fastback that is expected to blend supercar styling with the Korean brand’s next-gen EV tech.

Kia has neither named its new concept it has previewed in several shadowy images, nor revealed when the low-slung four-door coupe’s unwrapping ceremony will take place.

But it’s thought its jaw-dropping design will preview an inbound Stinger EV that could challenge expensive performance sedans such as the Porsche Taycan.

The original Stinger was a rear-wheel drive sports sedan that drew a strong cult following during its production between 2017-23. It was a critical if not commercial success.

Looking more like a supercar up front than a typical family sedan, the new Kia has a rakish front screen that appears to stretch seamlessly in an arch back to the rear seats.

At the rear another large, expansive piece of glazing has also been used that reaches to the rear spoiler.

Inside, you can just spot a steering wheel yoke that is tipped to be combined with Kia’s latest steer-by-wire technology.

Beneath the skin, it’s not known if the next-gen Stinger EV will be based on the car-maker’s E-GMP architecture or if it has switched to an all-new platform.

Expect top versions to come equipped with dual motors that could exceed the higher output of the 478kW and 770Nm of torque produced by sister brand Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N.

If it is the case, that should ensure ballistic levels of performance.

Uprated electrics that could exceed 800-volts should ensure the all-new halo model of the Kia brand will come with some of the fastest charging in the business.

A 20 to 80 per cent top-up should take less than 20 minutes.

When it arrives, the new Kia four-door fastback is expected to slot in the line-up between the EV6 and the current EV9 flagship, suggesting an EV7 or EV8 nameplate.

Stay tuned as Kia is expected to tease more of its mystery four-door supercar in the build-up to its reveal.
