2026 Porsche Macan GTS arrives to smash the Tesla Model Y Performance: German car-maker claims it makes the sportiest electric SUV

Porsche has launched a new sportier, driver-focused 2026 Porsche Macan GTS built to fight hot electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y Performance, Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

When it arrives in early 2026 it will lot into the fast Porsche Macan Electric line-up between the current Macan 4 ($137,600 plus on-road costs), Macan 4S ($149,300 plus ORCs) and the Macan Turbo ($187,600 plus ORCs).

It will land with a $171,100 (plus ORCs) price tag and introduces more power and chassis tweaks that are said to sharpen up the way it drives.

The Macan GTS follows a template set out by other GTS models including the Taycan GTS, 911 GTS, and the 718 Boxster/Cayman GTS.

The sporty nameplate was first used by the brand back in 1963 on the original 904 Carrera GTS road car.

Producing more power than the latest 911 GT3, the new 420kW/955Nm Macan GTS is claimed to launch from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds, 0-200km/h in 13.3 seconds and comes with a top speed of 250km/h.

Despite its punchy performance, the standard 100kWh battery provides a range of up to 586km on the WLTP test cycle, while a 10-80 per cent top-up at a rate of up to 270kW takes just 21 minutes.

Producing more power than a regular Macan 4S, the new GTS version comes with the Turbo’s rear axle that uses a more efficient 900-amp silicon carbide (SiC) pulse inverter.

Included in its price is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) that works with an electronically controlled locking rear differential.

Retuned sports air suspension means the Macan GTS sit 10mm lower than standard.

New dampers and anti-roll bars have also been added, while the Macan GTS comes with the option of rear-axle steering.

Other changes designed to enhance the driving experience are two exclusive GTS-specific soundscapes that differ in Sport and the Sport Plus modes.

Mirroring other Porsche GTS models, the new fast Macan comes with black-painted design elements and smoked Matrix LED headlamps.

From launch a fresh Sport Design Package styling kit will be offered on the regular Macan Electric model and is standard on the GTS version.

This adds new front and rear bumpers, side blades, wheel arch extenders and a lip to the adaptive spoiler that are all finished in black.

There’s also redesigned side skirts and a more prominent rear diffuser. Matching the front lamps, the taillights are also tinted.

As standard, the GTS rides on Anthracite Grey painted alloy wheels, with larger 22-inch RS Spyder Design rims, finished in the same colour as an option.

Painted in either the GTS’ trademark Carmine Red or Lugano Blue, Porsche will offer the Macan GTS in a further 15 colours, plus a further 60 hues as part of the car-maker’s paint to sample programme.

Within, there’s a pair of 18-way adjustable sport seats wrapped in leather and Race-Tex faux-suede and black leather, with the GT Sports steering wheel covered in the same Race-Tex.

As well as GTS branding, the steering wheel and seats come with contrasting stitching that is combined with red belts and a carbon-fibre interior trim on the dash and door cards.

The digital instrument cluster also comes with GTS-specific graphics and themes.

Along with the introduction of the new Macan GTS, Porsche has also rolled out the new Porsche Digital Key tech, that uses your smartphone to replace a physical key, a new AI-powered voice assistant, a new in-car gaming facility, plus an increased braked towing capacity of 2500kg.

Switching to all-electric power in late 2024, the Porsche Macan Electric was originally set to be a direct replacement for the mid-size combustion-powered SUV of the same name.

But following a radical rethink of its EV strategy off the back of slowing EV sales globally, the German brand is now rushing to introduce a new combustion-powered SUV that is set to land in either 2027 or later in 2028.
