2025 Peugeot 308 switched to hybrid-only power, taking on Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic

Peugeot Australia has announced that from early next year the Peugeot 308 range will be slimmed down to a single hybrid variant, mirroring what’s already happened to the hybrid-only Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic Down Under.

From Q1 of 2025 the Peugeot 308 GT Hybrid will be the only 308 available, with Peugeot announcing it will be priced from $48,990 plus on-road costs. That’s $5000 more than the current turbo-petrol 308 model it is about to drop.

Powered by a diminutive 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo that is combined with a tiny 0.9kWh battery pack and a modest e-motor, total power is just 100kW, while torque is 230Nm.

Said to be capable of averaging just 4.2L/100km on the combined cycle, Peugeot claims the emissions of its electrified hatch fall to just 95g/km of CO2.

A new six-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been introduced, with the new cog-swapper far more efficient than before, equating to fuel savings of as much as 21 per cent without added electrification.

To help compensate for the lofty purchase price Peugeot has thrown in matrix LED headlamps, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment screen, heated sports steering wheel, ambient lighting, Alcantara and fake leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera and premium sound system.

Stylish 18-inch alloy wheels are also standard, while buyers have the choice of opting for Obsession Blue, Okenite White, Artense Grey, Sellenium Grey, Nera Black or Elixir Red paint.

When it comes to safety blind spot detection, lane departure warning, an advanced AEB, lane keep assist, fatigue detection, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control with stop and go are all included.

Sadly, along with  the turbo-petrol Peugeot Australia has announced that the plug-in hybrid version has been binned, as well as the more practical wagon body style.
