2024 Cupra Tavascan pricing revealed – “between mass and prestige”
Cupra has almost, kind of announced indicative pricing for its new all electric SUV, the Tavascan, ahead of its Australian debut later this year.
Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks said the “design and performance-focused SUV” would land in Australia later this year with a highly-compelling price point “reflecting its position between mass market and prestige segments”.
If that sounds vague, you might be right, as Mr Wilks said the price of the Tavascan would be “slightly above the top-spec Formentor VZx”, which is listed at $65,790 plus on road costs.
That slightly vague price, let’s call it $66,000, roughly, will be for the 210kW rear-wheel-dirve Endurance spec of the Tavascan.
Mr Wilks added that he expected the other, more expensive variants to the Tavascan would “fall below the LCT threshold and to therefore qualify for FBT exemptions”.
At present, in Australia, the Luxury Car Tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles is $91,387.
The Tavascan will debut in late Q4 – also known as December – in both Endurance’ and ‘VZ’ grades, with an optional Interior Package available for the Endurance at launch.
The VZ’s exclusive option pack, the Extreme Package, will arrive in early 2025.
Four exterior colours will be available – Atacama Desert, White Silver, Basalt Grey and the hero Tavascan Blue.
All Tavascans will be fitted with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system with new generation interface, an evolved ‘twist-shift’ drive selector, and paddle-shift control of the car’s regenerative braking system.
The Endurance grade will be attractive to those wishing to maximise available range, with the 77kWh battery returning official figures of 534km on the WLTP testing cycle.
Standard equipment will include 19-inch black and silver Vulcano alloy wheels, a new LED headlight design with triangular DRLs, a power tailgate with ‘kick’ sensor, smart entry with ‘sit-to-start’ functionality, three-zone climate system, and a full suite of safety features.
The optional Extreme Package for the VZ will be the first Australian Cupra to get the more extreme ‘Cup Racing’ bucket front seats. Sticky performance tyres for the Extreme Package will see the range between charges reduced to 463km.
Mr Wilks said the Tavascan would be the first step in a massive 12 months for the Cupra brand in Australia.
“In addition to the Tavascan, the electrifying Born VZ hatchback and newly revealed Terramar PHEV/ICE SUV are also on the way,” he said.
“So too are the extensively revised Formentor and Leon, plus the Leon Sportstourer, each with the option of a PHEV version boasting around 100km of electric-only range.”
