VW plugs in: Tiguan and Tayron SUVs are the first sub-$100K PHEVs from German giant in Australia
Volkswagen has confirmed pricing and key details for the Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to be offered in Australia under $100,000.
The two mid-size SUVs will arrive in Australian showrooms in the second quarter of 2026 and will be offered in Elegance and R-Line grades.
Australian pricing for the Tiguan eHybrid starts from $64,590 for the 150TSI eHybrid Elegance and rises to $74,550 for the 200TSI eHybrid R-Line (manufacturer’s recommended retail price including GST).

The Tayron eHybrid range opens at $62,390 for the 150TSI eHybrid Elegance, with the 200TSI eHybrid R-Line priced from $76,550.
That drastically undercuts the Volkswagen brand’s only other PHEV sold in Australia, the $139,990 plus on-road costs Touareg R.
Of course, VW also offers the ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz pure battery electric vehicles in Australia.
Both models share Volkswagen’s latest plug-in hybrid powertrain, pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a 19.7kWh battery pack. System outputs are rated at either 150kW or 200kW depending on variant.

Volkswagen claims the battery enables an electric-only driving range of between 113km and 117km on the WLTP test cycle, while combined fuel consumption is rated at 1.6–1.8L/100km.
Charging capability includes AC charging at up to 11kW and DC fast charging at up to 40kW.
The Tiguan eHybrid will be offered as a five-seat SUV with 490 litres of luggage capacity, while the larger Tayron eHybrid provides 705 litres of boot space and is positioned as the more family-focused option in the range.

Optional equipment across the range includes metallic paint, a panoramic sunroof, a Black Style package for R-Line variants and a Sound & Vision package for Tayron Elegance models. VW PV_Tayron Tiguan eHybrid pri…
Volkswagen says the new plug-in hybrid variants are positioned just above equivalent petrol-powered Elegance and R-Line grades in the line-up, offering the ability to drive a claimed 113km-117km on electric power while retaining petrol engine capability for longer trips.
Order books are opening ahead of the models arriving in local showrooms in the second quarter of 2026.
