That’s crazy! 2026 Xiaomi SU7 EV becomes one of the fastest selling cars of all time

Xiaomi Auto, the brand that replaced Tesla as the coolest EV maker in China, has recorded incredible early demand for its updated SU7 electric sedan.

Xiaomi is claiming 15,000 deposits were placed within 34 minutes of order books opening, making it one of the fastest-selling vehicles of all times.

The refreshed 2026 Xiaomi SU7 is priced from 219,900 to 303,900 yuan (about $45,000–A$63,000) and was initially offered in Standard, Pro and Max variants before orders were paused following the initial intake.

The facelift introduces a new front-end design that integrates a 4D millimetre-wave radar with a cleaning system, along with updated rear cameras, new wheel designs and expanded colour choices.

Under the skin, the SU7 adopts what Xiaomi calls its “Dragon Chassis”, featuring double wishbone front suspension, a five-link rear setup, dual-chamber air springs and adaptive damping.

Powertrain details remain broadly unchanged, with Xiaomi quoting a 0–100km/h time of 3.08 seconds for the updated range.

All variants use silicon carbide inverters, with the Standard operating on a 752-volt system and the Pro and Max models using an 897-volt electrical architecture.

Driving range on the Chinese CLTC cycle is listed at 720km for the Standard, 902km for the Pro and 835km for the Max.

Xiaomi claims the Max can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 12 minutes, with up to 670km of range added in 15 minutes under optimal conditions.

Inside, the SU7 runs updated software based on Xiaomi’s XiaoAI and XLA systems, supported by a Snapdragon 8 chip and a secondary processor rated at 700 TOPS.

Features include a Dolby Atmos-capable sound system, 5G connectivity and an onboard fridge with heating and cooling functions.

Safety upgrades include nine airbags, hot-formed steel structural components and an integrated roll cage.

Xiaomi says it has also introduced triple-redundancy door handles following previous concerns including a high profile fatal accident.

Xiaomi has previously outlined plans to expand into Europe by 2027, with right-hand drive production expected to form part of that strategy.

An Australian launch has not been confirmed, but would likely follow any UK rollout as part of a broader global expansion.
