Tesla Model 3 rival unveiled! Kia reveals EV4 sedan and hatch as countdown to global EV Day and more new models continues

Kia has ripped the covers off its 2025 Kia EV4 compact electric sedan and hatchback.

But it has stopped short of unveiling the interior or full technical details of its Tesla Model 3 fighter until February 27.

That’s when Tarragona in Spain will host the Kia EV Day at which the production version of PV5 commercial vehicle and first concept version of the EV2 compact hatch will be unveiled.

Kia says it will also announce an expanded electrification strategy on the day.

Both the EV4 and PV5 are expected to come to Australia, while the EV2 has previously been ruled out because of its Slovakian production base in Europe, which would add considerable cost to its local price.

The EV4 has  exterior styling that shows influences from Kia’s EV and ICE line-ups.

Those elements include the EV version of Kia’s Tiger Face grille, while the sedan’s long tail is evocative of the recently-launched compact K4 ICE model.

The GT-Line shown in the release photography rolls on 19-inch alloy wheels and has unique wing-shaped front and rear bumpers.

“The Kia EV4 is a clear reflection of our commitment to rethink mobility, and expand the boundaries of what design can achieve,” said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design.

“By offering both sedan and hatchback variants, we are bringing to our customers, the unique experience of modernity and practicality that defines the Kia EV family, in a way that suits their varied lifestyles and needs.

“Offering a fresh take on the sedan, the EV4 sedan features a sleek, low nose and long-tail silhouette. The EV4 hatchback is a nimble, versatile all-rounder. Distinctive and clean, it is built to excel in any situation.”

The EV4 is expected to be closely related to the EV3, with the small sedan set to share plenty with the compact SUV that launches in Australia within weeks.

That means it will ride on the same e-GMP architecture, but come with a 400V electric architecture, rather than the more powerful 800V electrics bigger more expensive Kia EVs come with.

It’s thought it will come with a range that will better the EV3’s 620km thanks to its lower, more aerodynamically efficient body.

The PV5 will be based on the car-making giant’s Purpose Built Vehicle platform – that is set to spin off not only a van but also a people mover and even a ute.

The Kia EV2 Concept is said to be 80 per cent complete compared to the production version that will launch in 2026 and should look like a shrunken version of the bigger EV3.
