Sharper pricing for Jaecoo J7 PHEV: Undercuts BYD Sealion 6, takes aim at Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid and Geely Starray EM-i

The 2026 Jaecoo J7 SHS Track has landed in Australia priced from $43,990 drive-away, making it one of the most affordable plug-in hybrid SUVs in the country.

Costing $4000 less than the current Jaecoo J7 SHS Summit, the new J7 SHS Track variant now undercuts the entry BYD Sealion 6 ($42,990 before on-road costs).

But is still beaten in the value stakes by its close relation the Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid ($39,990 drive-away) as well as the Geely Starray EM-i ($37,490 before on-road costs).

In response to the new influx of cheaper plug-in hybrid SUVs, the BYD brand has already confirmed it will roll out its BYD Sealion 5 next year that is hot tipped to undercut the Chery Tiggo 7 with a price tag comfortably below $40,000.

Equipped with the same powertrain as other Jaecoo J7 SHS variants, the new Track version combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 105kW and 215Nm of torque with a 150kW/310Nm e-motor, a one-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and an 18.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The latter provides for an all-electric range of 90km, plus a claimed fuel use of just 1.0L/100km.

What’s missing is the option of all-wheel drive, with the J7 SHS exclusively front-wheel drive.

Dropping some of the Summit’s tech, the new J7 SHS Track comes with a smaller 13.2-inch infotainment system, instead of the larger 14.8-inch touchscreen.

However, the smaller screen still works with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There’s a less powerful six-speaker system, instead of the Summit’s eight-speaker Sony system.

The Track also misses out on its more expensive version’s front foglamps, panoramic roof, electric tailgate, head-up display, built-in dashcam, 50W wireless phone charger and ambient lighting.

Instead the J7 SHS comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated, power-fold mirrors, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, faux leather 6-way power adjust heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic assist and 360-degree camera.

Available in Australian Omoda Jaecoo showrooms now, the new J7 SHS Track comes with an industry-leading eight-year /unlimited-kilometre warranty that does not require dealership servicing for the full coverage, unlike the 10-year Mitsubishi, MG and Nissan cover that are also mileage limited.
