Price parity: Plug-in Audi Q5 e-Hybrid arrives with more power, fuel-savings, 80km EV range and same price as slower ICE

Audi Australia has announced a new 270kW plug-in hybrid version of its mid-size Q5 SUV that will be priced from $96,900 plus on-roads when it lands in Q1 of 2026.

That’s exactly the same price as its less powerful 200kW petrol turbo.

Available with both the third-generation Q5 SUV wagon and the sportier Q5 Sportback coupe, the new plug-in e-hybrid will be offered alongside a fresh TFSI quattro petrol mild-hybrid that is priced identically as the PHEV.

This is the second time in months Audi has pulled this pricing lever, after pricing the A5 e-hybrid equivalently with the A5 TFSI.

The driver fort all this is Australia’s new NVES CO2 reduction scheme and Audi’s attempts to driver buyers towards the lower emissions choice.

The Q5 PHEV is also set to become the most affordable premium plug-in mid-size SUV on sale in Australia. It is priced $8000 less than the BMW X3 30e xDrive ($104,800 plus ORCs) and is $3300 cheaper than the Mercedes-Benz GLC300e ($99,900 plus ORCs).

The swoopier Audi Q5 e-tron quattro Sportback coupe, meanwhile, has been priced from $100,400.

Both models match the price of the new Q5 TFSI quattro that produces 200kW and 400Nm of torque from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder.

Powering the new Q5 e-hybrid quattro is a 185kW 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that is combine with a 105kW e-motor and a 20.7kWh battery pack for a total system output of 270kW and 500Nm of torque.

Off the line, Audi says the plug-in Q5 can launch from 0-100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, which is impressive considering that on a full charge it can travel up to 82km on EV power alone.

It is also claimed to be capable of averaging 2.6l/100km on the WLTP test cycle while emitting just 60g/km of CO2.

Topping up the battery is via 11kW AC charging with a full refuel taking 2.5 hours.

The new Q5 e-hybrid comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, red brake callipers, black exterior styling pack, rear privacy glass and auxiliary air conditioning.
