Polestar BST revs up! But 2, 3, 4 or 5? Which model will it be based on?
A brand new Polestar BST EV beast will be unleashed as soon as late 2026.
While the standard model it will be based on – Polestar 2, 3, 4 or 5 – remains undisclosed, the high-performance BST will be unveiled in the second half of this year or early 2027.
It will signal the permanent arrival of the Benz AMG- and BMW M-rivalling BST sub-brand into Polestar showrooms after a couple of Polestar 2 based limited editions (BST 230 and BST 270) that did not come to Australia and the 2024 Polestar 6 BST concept.

The arrival of BST will form a critical plank in the EV brand’s attempts to maintain momentum during the long wait between the launch of the Polestar 5 luxury flagship this year and the arrival of the Polestar 7 compact SUV in early 2028.
Other significant updates of the standard 2, 3 and 4 models are also expected in this timeframe.
“I think we should expect some BST enhancements to more of the range,” confirmed Polestar Australia managing director Scott Maynard.
“It’s recognised as something that would be worthwhile and it would sit well with brand image.
“So I think we can look forward to some more BST enhancements to some of our products.”
But Maynard would not be drawn on which model is likely to be the launch platform for BST.
“Too early to say [which model] at the moment, but there’s plenty of work going on, on just where that brand would fit nicely and what models it would couple with.”
In the past both the 3 large SUV and top-selling medium 4 SUV have been slated for the Polestar treatment.

A Polestar 3 with BST boost applied would literally be one heck of a beast, as the existing dual motor version with Performance Pack already makes 380kW/910Nm and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
The smaller and lighter Polestar 4 dual motor is even more impressive, making 400kW/686Nm and reaching 100km/h from rest in 3.8 seconds.
Another Polestar 2 BST seems less likely because of its age. But that model will still need some substantial updates to survive until at least 2028, so don’t rule it out.
The new Polestar 5 would be a high-tech but expensive basis for a BST.
The Polestar 6 that was the basis for the BST concept has been delayed until at least 2028-9 and there is no guarantee it will actually ever be built.
Maynard expressed confidence whatever BST is rolled out would work here.

“Australia’s a market that loves high performance product,” he said. “To be able to offer up a bit more of a BST line-up to some of the vehicle we have got or are gonna get … would be tremendous.”
The confirmation of BST’s arrival is not a complete surprise as both global CEO Michael Lohscheller and new design boss Philipp Römers hinted at it during media interviews at the Munich motor show last year.
In fact Römers even dug into the styling theme of a BST, explaining it would not use big wings and outlandish adornments to make a performance statement.
“We should remain, of course, progressive and have some features which are outstanding, but the execution and the looks of the car should be highly attractive and well done and should not scare you!”
