Peugeot 2008 SUV BEV uncertain for Australia
An all-new Peugeot 2008 compact SUV will arrive in Australia in 2020, but it’s so far unknown if an electric version will be included in the line-up.
The second-generation 2008 is based on the same new CMP (Common Modular Platform) steel monocoque as the 2019 European Car of the Year, the Peugeot 208 hatch.
It is on-sale in Europe with a choice of turbo-petrol, turbo-diesel and battery electric powertrains. There is no hybrid option.
The e-2008 BEV features a 100kW/300Nm electric motor powering the front wheels. Charge comes from a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack and range is a claimed 310km WLTP (30km less than the electric 208).
The battery can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in 30 minutes via a 100kW DC fast charger.
The Peugeot e-2008’s powertrain is spreading across the PSA Group (Citroen and Peugeot) and is also featured in the recently revealed Citroen e-C4.
The 2008 is a five-door five-seat SUV that borrows heavily from the 208 for its front-end styling and moreso from its SUV siblings the 3008 and 5008 at the rear.
It is also a substantial 150mm longer than its predecessor at 4.3m. A 360-litre boot is acceptable for the class.
Inside, the 2008 features the latest iteration of Peugeot’s controversial i-cockpit concept, featuring a small steering wheel that has to be positioned low to avoid blocking the instrument panel.
Peugeot Australia is accepting expressions of interest for the new 2008 on its website now.
