Outed! Secret new XPeng G7 SUV revealed in China. It could be in Australia soon to fight the Tesla Model Y and tempt family SUV buyers out of their Toyota Klugers

The inbound 2025 XPeng G7 has been outed months before you’re supposed to see it.

XPeng dropped some official pics of the super-secrret new SUV in China last week, just before the release of pics via the Chinese government’s Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) as part of its pre-sale homologation process.

Set to be launched in China later this year, the EV start-up’s fourth model could become the firm’s biggest seller vying with the firm’s G6.

That’s because the longer XPeng G7 is set to offer more space for less money.

Based on the same SEPA 2.0 platform as the mid-sized G6, the new XPeng G7 measures up at 4892mm long, making it a considerable 141mm longer than the Tesla Model Y, which is soon to be updated with its Juniper facelift.

The G7 is also a similar length to family-friendly traditional seven-seat SUVs like the combustion-powered Toyota Kluger hybrid.

While it’s not been confirmed, it’s hotly-tipped the XPeng G7 will offer buyers seven seats.

This could be crucial for the brand’s continuing breakthrough in Australia.

In fact, XPeng could go from a dearth to a plethora of seven-seaters in Australia if the G7 does come here to join the X9 people-mover and the G9 SUV.

Australian XPeng importer TrueEV has made it clear it wants to get the X9 on-sale before the end of 2025 and the G9 in 2026 after it’s been updated to add a third row of seating.

However, it has yet to make any statements about the G7, which would seem to be crowding into the G9’s turf somewhat, considering they are an identical length.

And external competition should be heating up as well, with BYD expected to launch its first seven-seat SUV in 2025 in Australia.

The G7 benefits from all the in-car tech already offered by the smaller G6, including a 15.6-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke multi-function oval-shaped steering wheel, twin wireless charging pads and button door releases.

When launched, the XPeng G7 will initially be offered with a single e-motor that produces 218kW. A more powerful dual-motor/all-wheel drive versions set to be available later.

Best of all, the G7 SUV will come with an 800-volt electrical architecture that should help it deliver class-leading charging speeds.

In China the three-row electric EV will come with the car-maker’s most advanced artificial intelligence-powered driver assist aids. Given the G6 omits the most sophisticated AI stuff in Australia, the same may be true of the G7.

Full details will coincide the XPeng G7’s Chinese launch in the coming weeks or months, with an announcement on its Australian launch expected after.
