Now that’s a price cut! GWM Ora smashes MG4, BYD Dolphin and threatens entry-level ICE with $35K drive-away pricing
The electric car pricing war is well and truly underway!
The GWM Ora is now clearly the cheapest and most affordable new electric car sold in Australia thanks to $35,990 drive-away pricing announced this morning for the Standard Range model.

It also means an EV’s price is now within spitting distance of some of the cheapest ICE cars on Australian roads.
For instance, up to three current Toyota Yaris petrol-hybrid small hatch models are more expensive to drive-away, depending on the state you live in.
The MG4 is now the second cheapest EV on-sale in Australia alongside the MG ZS Excite SUV, which is also $39,990 drive-away.
GWM has also slashed pricing for the rest of the Ora range (see below), and the company says this is a permanent change and not a promotional discount as had been previously applied.
The Ora has lagged behind the MG4 and BYD Dolphin in the sales race and this move is clearly intended to react to the MG change and provide a boost.
GWM says it has been able to make the change because of favourable exchange rates. All vehicle specifications remain unchanged.
The Standard Range was officially previously priced at $39,990 plus on-road costs, so this is an overall saving of around $8000 depending on the state you’re buying in.
The Extended Range drops from $45,990 plus on-road costs to $40,990 drive-away, the Ultra from $48,990 plus on-road costs to $43,990 drive-away and the flagship GT from $51,990 plus ORCs to $46,990 drive-away.
The BYD Dolphin is priced from $38,890 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Dynamic, pushing its on-road price beyond $40,000.
The revised GWM Ora pricing is as follows, with the old price before on-roads in brackets:
Ora Standard Range (310km range): $35,990 ($39,990)
Ora Extended Range (420km range): $40,990 ($45,990)
Ora Ultra (420km range): $43,990 ($48,990)
Ora GT (400km range): $46,990 ($51,990)
