LDV EVT60 could win race to become Australia’s first all-electric dual-cab ute
The LDV T60 could have an all-electric variant on sale in Australia by the end of the year, with reports the Chinese brand could be the first to offer an EV dual-cab Down Under with the LDV EVT60 electric ute.
The all-electric ute has already been listed for sale on LDV’s NZ website, with Australia thought to be next on the list, with Drive reporting that plans to introduce the model locally are well underway.
While it might be the first, it certainly won’t be the last, with a heap of all-electric utes expected to arrive on our shores soon.
EXCLUSIVE FEATURE: EV ute overload: The electric pickup trucks coming soon
Based on the T60, the EVT60 is equipped with a rear-mounted single motor that produces 130kW and 310Nm. The motor is paired with an 88.5kWh battery, producing a WLTP range of around 325kms.
The EV powertrain will certainly save you on fuel, but it does also have some drawbacks when compared to a diesel-powered dual-cab.
For one, the single-motor layout means the EV ute is rear-wheel drive only. And while LDV says it will carry just under a tonne, it can only tow 1000kg (significantly less than the several-tonne industry standard) – and doing so will reduce range by 50 per cent to just 162km.
Its price, too, is something of a mystery, though LDV in NZ is taking $1000 refundable deposits. Based on other ICE-to-EV products in Australia, though, you can expect to pay a sizeable premium.
