Hybrids to join Jeep Avenger EV in Australia as US brand tackles the best-selling MG ZS
Jeep Australia is targeting the best-selling MG ZS small SUV with plans for more affordable versions of its Jeep Avenger compact SUV.
The growing line-up could include a mild hybrid and all-wheel drive 4xe hybrid (pictured top).
Speaking to media at the pint-size Jeep Avenger EV’s local launch, Stellantis Australia product boss Bridget Thomson confirmed that more affordable powertrains were being considered.

“I don’t want to rule any specific powertrains out but I do think there’s more opportunity for this car outside of just BEV… wink wink,” she told carsales, adding:
“Yeah, I just wouldn’t rule anything out.”
Pricing for the Avenger EV kicks off in Australia from $49,990, with cheaper versions set to target the best-selling MG ZS.
That could see prices as low as $29,990 for the base combustion, or mild-hybrid version.
The senior Stellantis exec wouldn’t be drawn on timelines, but it’s been tipped that the introduction of cheaper combustion, mild-hybrid and hybrid versions of the small Avenger could instantly see it become the brand’s best-selling model.
Helping it compete, as well as a low price, the Avenger comes with a long list of standard kit.
The base Longitude version comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic high-beam LED lights, cloth seat trim and manual front seats, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There’s also climate control air-con and keyless start giving you less need to raid the options list when ordering.
