Genesis Electrified G80 tries again: Longer, more spacious, more luxury, bigger battery and longer range for cut-price BMW i7 and Benz EQS rival

The Genesis Electrified G80 luxury sedan has been reinvented for 2025.

The luxury battery-powered limo has been overhauled with a new long-wheelbase body, bigger battery, and superior range.

On sale later this year priced from $155,000 plus on-roads, the new Genesis Electrified G80 costs $9442 more than the version it replaces but around $150,000 less than a BMW i7 and $65,000 less than the equivalent Benz EQS.

Switching to a single model EV offering, the Genesis Electrified G80 Signature AWD trim gets a wheelbase that’s 130mm longer than before, benefiting both leg and headroom in the second row.

Swapping out the old car’s 87.2kWh battery for a more energy dense 94.5kWh power pack, Genesis says its Electrified G80’s cruising range is boosted from 520km to 570km.

Charging remains highly competitive, with a 10 to 80 per cent top up taking as little as 25 minutes.

The all-electric G80 remains plenty brisk enough, too.

Driven by a pair of dual motors that produce 272kW and 700Nm of torque, the longer G80 claims 0-100km/h takes 5.1 seconds.

Looking dramatically different within, the Electrified G80, Genesis adopts a huge 27-inch OLED widescreen display that stretches across the dash and incorporates the instrument cluster and the infotainment system and works with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The old car’s 20-speaker premium hi-fi is ditched for a more powerful 17-speaker Bang & Olufson sound system, while a UV-C sanitising centre console, and a pair of more comfortable Ergo motion front and rear seats are introduced.

Extra luxury details include powered open and close rear doors and a new steering wheel-mounted short cut to silence the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist has been added.

Ensuring agility has been maintained, despite adding inches to the wheelbase, the 5135mm (+130mm) electric G80 gets rear-wheel steer.

Now with 80mm more legroom and 20mm extra headroom, active road noise cancelling has been introduced for a quieter, more comfortable ride.

When it comes to styling, the refreshed Electrified G80 gets the brand’s latest twin-line Micro Array headlamps, a new G-Matrix grille and large 19-inch aero dish-style alloy wheels, plus a new front badge.

Driver assist tech includes automatic lane changers, enhanced collision avoidance plus a navigation-based adaptive cruise control that auto-adjusts speed to match speed limit information.

The only option on the new Genesis Electrified G80 is premium matte paint that costs an extra $2000.
