Game on, Tesla Model Y! Mazda CX-6e pricing confirmed as sleek electric SUV opens from $53,990
Mazda has confirmed pricing and specification for its new CX-6e, with the brand’s first China-derived mainstream electric SUV to open from $53,990 before on-road costs ahead of first Australian deliveries in September.
Coming to join the Mazda 6e sedan – which is cheaper, starting from $49,990 – the new electric SUV will be offered in two rear-wheel-drive grades at launch, with the CX-6e GT priced from $53,990 and the flagship Azami from $56,990. Both use a 190kW electric motor and a 78kWh battery.

That price point positions the CX-6e as something of a value player in Australia’s mid-size electric SUV market, where it will take aim at established rivals like the Tesla Model Y, while also adding to the growing list of Chinese-built EVs reshaping the local new-car landscape.

Mazda says the CX-6e will deliver up to 484km of WLTP driving range, while DC fast charging capability allows the battery to be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in as little as 15 minutes. The CX-6e is rear-drive only, sending its 190kW and 290Nm exclusively to the rear wheels.
Inside, Mazda says the CX-6e has been designed around the Japanese concept of “ma”, or the beauty of empty space, with a minimalist cabin layout. A 26.45-inch central touchscreen, 50-inch active driving display and 256-colour ambient lighting headline the technology push.
The entry CX-6e GT arrives with 19-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera with see-through view, tri-zone climate control with an air purification system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a powered tailgate, front and rear parking sensors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof, satellite navigation, wireless phone charging and a 23-speaker audio system.
Stepping up to the Azami earns buyers 21-inch alloy wheels, along with digital mirrors.

Both grades will also support Mazda’s EV app and Bluetooth key functionality, with owners able to access remote climate control, door locking and unlocking, power window operation and vehicle tracking.
Safety technology is strong across the range, too, with features including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, emergency brake assist and Smart Brake Support for turning across traffic with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
“Adding a medium-sized electric SUV to sit alongside our comprehensive range of petrol, diesel and hybridised vehicles is a vital leap in offering Australian customers the freedom of choice – as we always strive to do,” says Mazda Australia managing director, Vinesh Bhindi.
“I am equally as excited to announce that on top of a sharply value-focused pricing structure, we will also be introducing the All-Electric Mazda CX-6e with an irresistible pre-order campaign, following the huge popularity of our similar Mazda 6e offer, which saw all 300 units sell out within only two weeks.”
That push will see the first 1000 customers who pre-order a CX-6e GT receive a free upgrade to the Azami trim.
