Fight back! 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV upgraded to stay ahead of BYD Sealion 6, GWM H6 GT and Jaecoo J7 SHS

Mitsubishi has announced its updated 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid will be treated to an Australian-specific suspension and steering tune.

The changes are designed to boost the appeal of the strong-selling PHEV SUV against an influx of new opposition.

Most notably, Chinese competition in the PHEV-powered mid-size segment continues to rise with the BYD Sealion 6, GWM H6 GT and Jaecoo J7 SHS.

Along with the chassis tweaks designed to enhance comfort and agility, Australia’s second best-selling medium SUV will gain a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system that finally adds wireless Android Auto (wireless Apple CarPlay was already available).

And a new premium Yamaha audio system is available, as well as connected services and mild exterior tweaks.

Mitsubishi has previously announced the 2025 Outlander PHEV also gets a new 22.7kWh battery pack that improves the all-electric range fractionally from the current 20kWh’s 84km (ADR certified) to up to 86km on the Euro WLTP test cycle.

The Japanese car-maker has also said power increases by around 20 per cent with the 2.4-litre four-cylinder combustion engine and two e-motors now set to produce 222kW.

Promising to deliver sharper throttle responses and combined fuel consumption of just 0.8L/100km, the facelifted mid-size SUV relies more on its e-motors, thanks to its bigger battery, boosting real-world efficiency.

Elsewhere in the range the non-electrified 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s combined with a CVT carries over unchanged, while the flagship GSR trim is dropped temporarily. But it has been confirmed it will be reintroduced to the line-up later.

Commenting on the new Aussie suspension tune, Mitsubishi’s local product boss, Bruce Hampel said:

Pricing and full specification will be announced closer to launch but the ask for the plug-in hybrid is predicted to rise.

“Australian market feedback played a significant role in further improving the updated Outlander’s steering, ride and handling, tuning it to further suit Australian conditions and buyer requirements with a new tyre specification.

“There’s also an incredible new suite of Yamaha audio systems that further enhance the driving experience, while the refreshed exterior, new alloy wheel designs, interior and improved infotainment systems add further presence and sophistication.”
