Faster, higher, longer: Audi teases Porsche Macan EV-bashing Q6 e-tron Sportback ahead of Paris launch and Aussie arrival

Audi has celebrated Euro NCAP awarding its 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron wagon the full five stars for safety by teasing a picture of the more rakish Q6 e-tron Sportback.

It will unwrap the Sportback on October 14 at the Paris motor show ahead of its Aussie touch down in the first half of 2025.

The small picture of the Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback coupe-like rear styling was slipped into the press release for the Q6 e-tron wagon which scored an impressive 91 per cent for adult protection.

A further 92 per cent was awarded for the child safety making the all-electric mid-size EV among the safest cars it tested so far in 2023 and 2024.

The Q6 e-tron Sportback, meanwhile, is set to not only be as safe as the Q6 e-tron wagon but have an improved range thanks to its slippery styling.

Combined with the standard Q6 e-tron’s 94.9kWh battery it’s estimated the most efficient Sportback version will easily cover more than 650km on the WLTP cycle – an improvement on the rear-drive Performance’s 641km range.

When it lands the Sportback version should mirror the Q6 e-tron wagon and come with a single e-motor that will deliver 240kW and at least two dual-motors versions – one with 285kW (badged Q6 e-tron quattro) and a flagship 380kW SQ6 e-tron.

Later on, an RS version of the Q6 e-tron Sportback will rock up. That car could have even more power than the Macan Turbo that pumps out a monumental 430kW (470kW overboost) and 1130Nm of torque.

Makes sense then it should also be even quicker from 0-100km/h than the blistering 3.3 seconds it takes for the Porsche EV.

Like the wagon, the Q6 e-tron the Sportback will be capable of DC fast-charging at up to 270kW, thanks to its 800-volt electrical architecture.

Find a 350kW charger and Audi claims a 10-80 per cent top-up takes as little as 21 minutes, with 260km of range added in 10 minutes.

Inside, the Q6 e-tron Sportback is expected to be identical to the wagon, with a large digital dash and big infotainment and be among the first-ever Audis to be offered with a Ferrari-style 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen. More will be revealed following its Paris unveiling
