Fantastic five: Deepal S07 ANCAP crash test finds new Tesla Model Y rival is one of the safest cars it’s tested
The mid-size all-electric 2025 Deepal S07 has received a glowing endorsement from ANCAP.
It equalled the latest Toyota Camry with the highest adult protection score (95) ever awarded under the latest 2023-2025 crash testing protocols.
According to the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) the all-new Tesla Model Y rival received a very respectable 86 for child occupant protection, 74 for pedestrian impact and a decent 78 for its safety assist systems.

The Changan Automobile-owned brand was awarded the full five stars after it racked up perfect scores for the driver side impact (T-bone) test, the oblique pole crash tests and the front-seat passenger in the frontal offset (head-on) crash test.
The only thing preventing the new S07 usurping the Toyota Camry to become Australia’s safest car was losing points for its child restraint installation and feature a child presence detection system that had an alarm that didn’t meet ANCAP’s requirements.
More room for improvement was needed in the exit-warning system, which didn’t provide sufficient warning for approaching cyclists,
A ‘marginal’ performance score was also given for its autonomous emergency braking in the staged crossing scenarios, as the Deepal SUV only performed limited auto-braking when crossing the path of another vehicle.
Luckily for the Chinese brand, the AEB was then scored both ‘good’ and ‘adequate’ in further tests involving pedestrian crossings.
“We’ve seen a number of new brands enter the local market over the past year and they continue to impress in meeting the high safety standard Australian consumers and fleet buyers expect,” said ANCAP’s CEO Carla Hoorweg.
The Deepal S07 is priced from $53,900 plus on-road costs and comes with a seven-year/160,000km warranty, plus an eight-year/240,000km protection for the high-voltage battery.
