eBussy: one EV with 10 body choices
If you’re one of those people that just can’t make up your mind what to wear then the eBussy could be for you.
It’s the automotive equivalent of a wardrobe – a battery electric vehicle that can change through various guises thanks to its customisable modular chassis.
The eBussy – short for electric bus – is the brainchild of a German start-up Electric Brands which promises it will be on-sale in Europe next year priced from the equivalent of $26,000 to $48,000 Aussie.

The starting point for eBussy buyers is opting for either the off-road or city chassis. From there more than 10 modular and interchangeable bodies are on offer including a convertible, off-roader, box body, station wagon, pick-up, van or camping bus.
The basic eBussy battery package delivers a claimed 200km, from its 10kWh lithium-ion battery, building to as much as 800km if you are willing to spend a bit more money for a 30kWh pack. Solar panels help recharge while driving, as does regenerative braking.
Drive comes from four tiny electric wheel motors that generate just 15kW but combine with 1000Nm of torque. Top speed is 90km/h-plus.
Other interesting equipment includes steer by wire, digital exterior mirrors and app-controlled communications.
The eBussy measures up at 3640mm long, 1600mm wide and 1940mm high. Base weight without batteries, load and superstructure is as little as 450kg.
In the first five years of production, 150,000 eBussy are to be built. In order to accelerate the market launch, the company is not planning its own plant but is using a contract manufacturer.
