e-Power for the people: Hybrid Nissan Qashqai cuts price to rival Toyota Corolla Cross and Hyundai Kona

Nissan Australia has continued its price drive on e-Power, adding a cheaper Qashqai compact SUV with the range extender hybrid technology.

The reintroduction of the Nissan Qashqai Ti e-Power follows on from the announcement of discounts for the e-Power versions of the larger X-Trail medium SUV.

Priced from $47,165 plus on-roads, the new base Qashqai Ti e-POWER is $5200 cheaper than the Qashqai Ti-L e-Power that was previously the most affordable Qashqai hybrid.

It’s also $600 cheaper than the X-Trail ST-L e-Power, which is now priced from $47,765 plus on-roads after a $3000 discount.

However, the electrified Nissan Qashqai Ti still commands a $4200 premium over the equivalent petrol-powered Ti.

And Toyota’s plugless petrol-electric Toyota Corolla Cross rival for the Qashqai still starts much lower at $33,980. The Hyundai Kona Hybrid starts at $36,500 plus ORCs.

Until now, the facelifted Qashqai limited the fuel-saving e-Power hybrid to only the high-spec Ti-L or N-Design variants.

Based on the mid-spec Ti, the cheapest hybrid Qashqai comes with a long list of standard kit that includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with auto high beams, roof rails and satin-chrome grille.

Within, there are heated electric leather seats, dual 12.3-inch digital displays and an optional two-tone (black roof) paint job.

When it comes to driver assist tech there’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and junction assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and keep assist, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert with rear braking, traffic sign recognition with speed adaption and driver monitoring.

Under the bonnet, like the rest of the Qashqai e-Power range, the latest Ti is powered by a 140kW/330Nm 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol that’s combined with an e-motor that drives the front wheels and is fed power from a small 1.8kWh battery.
