Denza launches its first EV in Australia: Price and spec for D9 people-mover confirmed

Denza has launched its first all-electric vehicle in Australia, with the BYD-owned luxury brand confirming local pricing and specifications for the new D9 people-mover.

The seven-seat Denza D9 arrives as the latest Chinese challenger in Australia’s small premium people-mover segment, following the arrival of the GAC M8 PHEV (from $76,590) and the all-electric Zeekr 009 (from $115,900).

It also comes as the electric LDV Mifa 9 is paused in the local market. The long-time segment benchmark, the Kia Carnival, continues to start from $54,300 in turbo-diesel form.

Priced from $85,990 plus on-road costs for the front-wheel-drive version and $95,990 plus on-road costs for the all-wheel-drive flagship, the launch of the D9 follows the debut of the Denza B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs last month.

Under the skin, the D9 uses BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and a 103.3kWh Blade battery. Power outputs are listed at 230kW/360Nm for the FWD variant and 275kW/470Nm for the AWD model.

Claimed driving range is up to 520km (WLTP) for the FWD and 480km for the AWD, while charging capability includes 11kW AC and up to 200kW DC fast charging.

Denza claims a low 64.8 dB level of cabin noise cruising at 120km/h, while the AWD models adds Disus-C adaptive suspenion.

Measuring 5250mm long with a 3110mm wheelbase, the D9 is positioned as a full-size luxury people mover, with a 2+2+3 seating layout featuring second-row captain’s chairs.

Denza says the cabin focuses on comfort and technology, with features including Nappa leather trim, a 15.6-inch infotainment display, a 12-inch head-up display, four-zone voice control, a 420 watt Dynaudio sound system and a dual-mode fridge that can heat or cool.

Cargo capacity is quoted at 410 litres with all seats in place, expanding to 2310 litres with the rear rows folded.

Safety equipment listed for Australia includes a suite of driver-assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane keeping assist, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert, alongside eight airbags and a body structure that integrates the battery into the chassis.

“We’re introducing a new standard of practical luxury,” said Denza Australia COO Mark Harland.

“The DENZA D9 offers all occupants first-class comfort, advanced technology, and everyday
usability without compromise.”

The next model Denza is expected to confrim for Australia is the Z9 GT electric wagon.
