Citroen e-C4 revealed, but TBC for Australia
The French manufacturer Citroen has revealed a new-generation C4 small hatchback including a battery electric variant.
The e-C4 is powered by a 100kW/260Nm electric motor that drives the front axle. Electrical charge is provided by a 50kWh lithium-ion battery.
The e-C4’s verified WLTP range is 350km. It can sprint to 100km/h in 9.7 sec and has a top speed of 150km/h.
This system is fundamentally the same as other PSA Group (Citroen and Peugeot) models such as the Peugeot e-2008.
Replacing the idiosyncratic C4 Cactus, the C4 is based on the new CMP (Common Modular Platform) architecture and offers petrol and diesel engines as well as the electric powertrain.
Riding slightly higher than an orthodox hatch, the C4 measures up at 4.36m long, 1.8m wide and 1.525m tall. Boot space is 380 litres, which is average for the small car class.
However, Citroen is claiming class-leading knee-room for passengers and no less than 16 storage cubbies.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Citroen without some quirks and in this case it’s a fold-out iPad or phone holder for passengers – thankfully not the driver as well!
Other key features include ride-aiding hydraulic bump stops for the suspension, Citroen’s signature ‘advanced comfort’ seats, a head-up display and 10.0-inch infotainment system.
Citroen Australia, which currently offers only the C3, C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross models, is yet to confirm whether it will sell the e-C4 or other C4 models.
