Cadillac reveals wild Elevated Velocity EV concept. Is it an off-roader, it is a sport sedan, is it a wellness centre? Will Caddy possibly ever build anything like it?

Luxury US brand Cadillac has revealed how it might reboot its V-Series high-performance sub-brand with an all-new EV concept called the Elevated Velocity.

Looking more like a jacked up super sedan than a traditional SUV, the new show car unveiled at the recent Monterey Car Week is one of Cadillac’s wildest and most ambitious concepts yet.

Despite that, the US brand, which is slowly building its presence in Australia, claims many of the new Elevated Velocity’s design cues will reappear in the near future.

Created to maximise its EV performance on any terrain, Elevated Velocity blends a sleek upper body claimed to deliver peak aerodynamic performance, while the lower half ensures the new Caddy is accomplished off-road.

The Elevated Velocity features a classic long bonnet and gullwing doors. The latter, providing  access to the spacious 2+2 cabin, are expected to remain concept car fantasy.

At the rear, the unusual illuminated rear body follows on from last year’s Opulent Velocity concept and mimics that car’s 3D tunnel effect.

Inside, the bright red cabin is combined with Vapour Blue paint and blue tinted windows.

In its autonomous Elevate mode the pedals and the steering wheel retract into the dash, reappearing when Velocity Mode is selected.

Within the steering wheel is a touchscreen that the driver can interact with, alongside a much larger wide screen ahead of the front row seats that works in unison with an augmented reality head-up display.

Fresh tech within includes something called “extreme climatization” that uses a next-gen climate control capable of humidifying dry desert air and even compensating for high altitudes.

There’s even the option of onboard red-light therapy for improved sleep, mood and reduced wrinkles.

Protecting your valuables, Cadillac equipped the Elevated Velocity with a vault-like compartment.

For The Quail event at Pebble Beach, where it was unveiled, Cadillac kitted out its high-rising sedan with a full polo set.

To make the opulent cabin more inviting, a Welcome Mode was created where the vehicle floor, seats instrument panel, doors and steering wheel illuminate in a soft white glow as the owner approaches and the doors swing skywards.

Riding on huge 24-inch wheels, Cadillac has been reluctant to release any details of its next-generation all-electric powertrain, four new driving modes have been detailed that could migrate to future models.

The first is e-Velocity Mode that is said to be an evolution of its V-Mode created for high-performance on-road driving, a Terra Mode that pre-arms the active air suspension for fast off-roading, a Sand Vision that uses the cameras to provide a clear view, even during a sandstorm and one final setting called Elements Defy.

This sees the outer skin of the Cadillac vibrate at a precise dust-phobic frequency to ensure you arrive at your destination with a spotless car.

Despite Cadillac ruling out a production version of the Elevated Velocity, it is assessing its reception to judge if there’s an appetite for a real car based on the wild concept or the features it contains.
