BMW chops EV pricing: iX1 and iX2 are now cheaper, new entry-level iX1 added

Just as EV demand booms, BMW has reduced pricing on its smallest electric SUVs in Australia.

The iX1 and iX2 compact electric SUVs are now offered at lower entry points as the brand looks to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive premium EV segment.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is now priced from $77,900 before on-road costs, while the BMW iX2 xDrive30 is listed at $79,900.

The old starting price for the iX1 was $80,600 plus on-road costs for the eDrive20 XDrive20, which has been discontinued. The xDrive30 previously started at $86,800 plus on-road costs.

The iX2 eDrive20 has also been discontinued. It was priced at $84,700 plus on-road costs. The cheapest xDrive30 price was previously $87,600 plus ORCs.

A new iX1 xDrive30 Sport Collection variant has also been introduced, offered at a national driveaway price of $79,900.

Both models continue to use a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain producing 230kW and 494Nm, with BMW also rolling out silicon carbide inverter technology aimed at improving efficiency, performance and potential driving range.

The pricing repositioning brings BMW’s entry-level electric SUVs more directly into contention with key rivals.

The Tesla Model Y Long Range currently sits in the low-$70,000 bracket before on-road costs, undercutting the iX1.

Premium alternatives such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge Twin Motor and Mercedes-Benz EQA 350 4Matic are typically priced in the mid-to-high $80,000 range, placing them closer to or above the iX2.

BMW says the iX1 has been its best-selling electric vehicle locally over the past three years, while the iX2 ranked as the second-highest seller in its EV line-up in 2025.

The newly introduced iX1 xDrive30 Sport Collection adds a bundled specification package that includes an Alpine White exterior, M Sport package, 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, adaptive M suspension and Veganza upholstery in black. It also brings heated front seats, a head-up display, Surround View camera system and BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional suite.

Further details around updated range and performance figures linked to the inverter upgrade are expected to be confirmed closer to launch.
