BMW-bashing Denza firms for 2025 Australian launch as BYD targets prestige Euro rivals
China’s BYD has announced it will launch its luxury Denza brand in Australia in the second half of 2025 in a bid to steal sales from European premiums like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover.
Key to its expansion Down Under will be the all-electric Denza N7.
Already of sale in China, this mid-size SUV features trick height-adjustable air suspension, 570km range and ultra-fast charging for a 30-80 per cent DC top-up in under 20 minutes.

Then there’s Denza’s flagship offering, the Z9 GT, with the promise of next-level technology and luxury. This low-slung shooting brake (wagon) sees itself as a Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo rival, but for a more wallet-friendly circa $80,000 fee.
On paper it looks a bargain beside Euro opposition, boasting a wild 640kW triple-motor plug-in hybrid powertrain, or as a 710kW all-electric version that takes 3.4 seconds to launch from 0-100km/h.
Within, there’s Nappa leather massage front and rear seats and a huge rotating infotainment system, plus 26-speaker high-end audio.
Encouraged by the strong reception of the BYD Shark 6 hybrid ute, Denza originally started life as a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BYD, with the German brand selling its final 10 per cent share to BYD last year.
Speaking to Carsales, BYD’s Asia Pacific boss, Liu Xueliang said: “We see customers who like technology – and luxury – will gravitate to Denza and we really have a great expectation for Denza in Australia”.
As well as European brands Denza said it has its sights set on Lexus, Cadillac and Genesis.
