Big deal! Massive $20,000 discount for Hyundai Ioniq 6 and $5000 off the Hyundai Kona… But there’s a big catch
Hyundai Australia is offering unprecedented discounts on the slow-selling Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan and Hyundai Kona electric compact SUV, but only if you tick the box for finance and don’t buy with cash.
Confirming both in-stock and demonstrator versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 are eligible, the Korean brand says if you’re quick you can get as much as $15,000 slashed off the Dynamiq and Techniq trims and an astonishing $20,000 knocked off the Epiq.
It’s important to point out to bargain hunters that to release the savings the actual discount takes the form of a deposit contribution.

The buyer then cops the interest rate charged on the balance by the Korean firm’s finance arm.
The next mild irritation is the availability of the Techniq variant that was discontinued back in 2023 as part of a model shakeup.
Hyundai says just 230 model year 2023 Ioniq 6s will be eligible for the new finance discounts, with the cheapest Dynamiq model priced from $71,500 before on-road costs.
The Techniq is $82,000 and the Epiq $87,288 before on-roads.
For buyers who can’t quite stretch to the sleek four-door EV, deposit contributions for finance deals are available for the more affordable Hyundai Kona.
Available on any Kona Electric built before July 30, 2024, Hyundai Australia says around 371 cars are currently available nationwide that qualify for a blanket $5000 deposit contribution.
That means five versions of the small electric SUV are eligible, with prices ranging from $54,000 to $68,000.
As well as the big finance discounts, Hyundai says it is also offering a 22kW Autel home charger or – if you’ve already got one of those – will throw in an Evie charging voucher instead, with both worth the equivalent of $1500.
These offers underline the difficulty Hyundai has had moving the Ioniq 6 and Kona electric in a slowly expanding EV market.
Just 374 Ioniq 6s were sold in 2024 and 1363 Konas. The top-selling electric sedan in Australia in 2024 was the Tesla Model Y with 17,094 sales, while the top-selling electric SUV was the Tesla Model Y with 21,253 sales.
Hyundai says its latest finance offer runs until March 31, or however long stock lasts.
