Beijing show: Hot Genesis G80 EV Magma is a BMW M5-bashing super sedan
Genesis has pulled the drapes off the new Genesis G80 EV Magma at the Beijing motor show and revealed how it plans to follow it with a family of Mercedes-AMG-rivalling performance vehicles.
Picking up where the wild-looking Genesis GV60 Magma left off in New York, the new performance offering based on the G80 Electrified gets a lower and broader purposeful proportions.
There’s also a menacing black chrome mesh grille, carbon-fibre mirror caps and two-tone black 21-inch lightweight alloy rims all help the luxury sedan signal its high-performance job.

Beneath the skin, the luxury Korean car-maker has yet to reveal what powers the G80 EV Magma.
But it’s thought it will feature either a dual- or even triple-motor powertrain based on the Hyundai IONIQ 5N, with the fast four-door likely to produce even more than that car’s already epic 478kW and 770Nm.
To ensure the chassis can keep up with the power on tap, the fast Genesis sedan is said to ride on a “track-tuned suspension” and come with uprated brakes.
Within, there’s sports seats trimmed in Alcantara and quilted leather mixed with cool blue-weave carbon trim.
There’s no word yet when Genesis plans to unleash the G80 EV Magma but it has said it will make an appearance at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
That suggests that the near production ready performance EV could be on sale as soon as early 2025.
The G80 Magma was unveiled in Beijing alongside a China-specific long wheelbase G80 EV.
A petrol-engined version of the G80 Magma was previously revealed as a Middle East special edition.
