Alpha EV ute gets dual-cab treatment with Superwolf
Meet the electric dual-cab ute you need when you really want to stand out – and carry more people.
It’s called the Alpha Superwolf and is based on the plain old Alpha Wolf that in itself is a very cool looking off-roader.
But it’s been stretched and adventurised, designed to take on the four-door dual-cab utes that dominate in the pickup truck segment.
EXCLUSIVE REPORT: EV ute overload: The electric pickups coming soon
Rather than the single cab setup of the Alpha Wolf – or its mid-way Wolf+ counterpart with rear-hinged half back doors – the Superworlf gets proper larger rear doors and a longer body to accommodate up to four people and a sizeable tray.
At 5450mm it’s marginally longer than a Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, but maintains all that coolness that the Californian-based EV startup is known for.
And it’s not just good to look at. The Superwolf also has underboonnet storage, adding to its rear tray that is 1652mm long, 1490mm wide and 458mm deep. That rear bed can be extended, too, with an extension hitch.
The Superwolf can even be optioned with exposed/open doors that look inspired by the world of modified Jeep Wranglers.
And there are hints of Ford Ranger Raptor in the broad flared wheel arches housing BF Goodrich KR2 mud terrain rubber.
Plus it has a raised ride height ready for some serious 4WD trails.
The Superwolf is powered by two electric motors for four-wheel drive traction and a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of 6.5 seconds.
The Superwolf is claimed to have an EV range of between 440km and 500km.
It can tow 3050kg and matches its retro-styled exterior with plenty of tech, including a digital instrument cluster and premium audio system.
There’s also no shortage of accessories, including roof racks, side steps with rock rails and storage pods.
LED lights can add to the in-built LEDs; going on the sheer volume of them it’d likely look like daylight once the high beams are activated.
The Superwolf is priced from US$48,000 ($65,000) and heads north from there, depending on how cool you want it to look and what sort of customisation you want.
No word on whether the Alpha EV utes will be coming to Australia, but we’ve asked the question.
