Advantage China? New Deepal S07 undercuts the Tesla Model Y by a cool $2000 – plus it beats the Tesla for driving range
The 2025 Deepal S07 all-electric SUV has been priced for Australia ahead of first deliveries kicking off in a few weeks, with the latest Chinese brand pricing its mid-sizer from $53,900 plus on-roads.
That’s $2000 less than the entry rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model Y that rules the segment for sales, meaning the Deepal S07 doesn’t just win against its US rival when it comes to how far it can travel on a single charge, but on price, too.
The S07 will cover a claimed 475km on a single charge, compared to the Model Y’s 455km. Not a massive difference, sure. But enough to claim bragging rights.

The key drawback, though, is the 160kW/320Nm Deepal S07 is less powerful than the 220kW/350Nm Model Y, and is also much slower to top up, on account of its 80kWh battery only being able to cope with a 92kW DC charge (versus 170kW for the Model Y).
It’s worth pointing out that the Deepal might be even cheaper than the Tesla Model Y as it is sold locally via a traditional dealer network at negotiable prices, rather than the fixed online prices the Tesla Model Y sells for.
Standard equipment for the S07 includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, synthetic leather heated and ventilated seats, an augmented-reality head-up display and a 14-speaker Sony sound system.
All versions also come with a huge 15.6-inch infotainment that can tilt by 15-degrees towards the driver or passenger. Options include larger 20-inch alloy wheels and premium paint.
The Deepal S07 is backed up by a seven-year/160,000km warranty, plus there’s eight-year/240,000km cover for the high-voltage battery.
