Has BYD just put Tesla on the ropes? Model Y-fighting Sealion 7 pricing revealed for Australia – and it’s cheap!
BYD’s Tesla Model Y-fighting Sealion 7 has been detailed for Australia, with the all-electric SUV looking like something of a bargain in a straight head-to-head with Elon Musk’s best-selling vehicle.
Launching in a two-model lineup, the Sealion 7 offering opens with the Premium, which lists at $54,990, before stepping up to the dual-motor Performance, which is priced at $63,990.
Both those numbers comfortably undercut the Tesla Model Y Juniper, which is currently $63,400 for the RWD and $73,400 for the Long Range AWD on Tesla’s Australian website.

And BYD has’t scrimped on the features list, with both models sharing leather seats that are heated and cooled for the driver and passenger, a big 15.6-inch central screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker stereo, a 10.25-inch driver display, along with another head-up display, and wireless phone charging.
There’s vehicle-to-load functionality, too, along with LED lighting, a glass roof and an auto-opening boot.
The Premium rides on 19-inch alloys, while the Performance scores 20-inch alloys, along with a heated steering wheel and heating for the rear seats.
The Sealion 7 Premium features a single rear-mounted electric motor that produces 230kW and 380Nm, unlocking a sprint to 100km/h of 6.7 seconds. The Performance adds a second front-mounted electric motor, lifting outputs to 390kW and 690kW, with the sprint to 100km/h now 4.5 seconds.
