Model rush! XPeng confirms G6 AWD Performance, X9 people mover, updated G9 SUV, Mona M03 Tesla Model 3 fighter and P7+ family car in Australia by 2026!

XPeng has opened its doors in Australia and revealed an aggressive model roll-out and sales plan for the next three years.

The emerging Chinese electric brand launches in Australia with only the G6 medium SUV, but by the end of 2026 should have expanded to a five model line-up.

Among them will be the brand new Mona M03 Tesla Model 3 fighter (pictured top) and the P7+ family car, both of which have just launched in China.

They are expected on-sale in 2026.

And by the end of 2027 the brand’s local distributor TrueEV is forecasting sales will rise to 25,000 per annum.

“That’s what we’d like to get to,” TrueEV CEO Jason Clarke confirmed at the official opening of XPeng’s flagship store in Sydney’s Mascot domestic airport precinct this week.

“People go ‘is the guy kidding himself?’ but have look, we are serious. This is a big thing.”

XPeng is one of the young tigers of the Chinese new energy vehicle scene alongside the likes of Li Auto and Nio.

In Australia, via TrueEv, it is one of a dozen or more Chinese brands arriving in Australia through mid-2025.

Others include Deepal, Leapmotor, Geely and Jaecoo. They join established players like MG, GWM and BYD, the success story the other newcomers want to emulate.

The two current G6 models, the Standard Range and Long Range, will be joined by the dual-motor AWD Performance flagship in 2025, while the X9 electric people-mover is also due in 2025.

Buoyed by local depositer interest, Clarke estimated G6 sales could reach more than 5000 in 2025, basically matching expectations for the EV5 medium electric SUV of one of Australia’s outright biggest brands, Kia.

Due late 2025 or early 2026 is the G9 SUV, which has flipped in the order with the X9 because TrueEV has elected to wait for a facelift that is expected to add a third row of seats for the first time.

Then come the M03 and P7+, which Clarke used Monday night’s opening celebration to all-but confirm.

“They are earmarked, we have to prove demand,” he said. “Demand here is very different to China.

“We want it [M03 and P7+], we think it will work and they are sending out engineers, we are doing the homologation planning and all that work just to make sure  we can get that through,” said Clarke.

The M03, which is priced from the equivalent of $25,800 in China, is a 4780mm front-wheel drive liftback with a maximum CLTC range via a 62.2kWh BYD LFP battery. It has a choice of 140kW and 160kW e-motors.

The P7+ is priced from the equivalent of $41,000 in China. It is 5056mm long and at launch powers the rear wheels via a choice of 180kW and 230kW e-Motors. Range is up to 710km CLTC courtesy of a 76.3kWh LFP battery.

Apart from its name the P7+ is not closely related to the P7i sedan, which has been on sale in China for some years and been part of local displays as well. It is not expected to go on-sale in Australia.

We are very interested in the X9 and would like to know when it will start selling in Sydney and its pricing. Currently, we are considering either the X9 or Zeekr 009. If Xpeng continues to delay its entry into the Australian market, we may end up purchasing the 009 instead.
