2026 Volvo EX90 rebooted: Luxury three-row SUV updated to beat BMW iX, Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9
Little more than five months since it was introduced to Australia, the 2026 Volvo EX90 has been overhauled.
Huge MY26 upgrades are designed to elevate the seven-seat wagon to the very top of the large luxury SUV class.
The big news is the 2026 EX90 ditches its outdated 400-volt electrical architecture and adopts the Swedish brand’s latest 800-volt electrics introduced with the ES90 sedan.

This boosts peak charging speeds from 250kW to the same 350kW, which is better than rivals such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9 can achieve.
Volvo claims 10 minutes after plugging the EX90 into a fast DC charger, owners can add up to 250km of range.

Off the line, the high-power electrics are also claimed to ramp up performance.
Volvo has yet to release full technical details for its updated EX90, but expect a significant improvement when it comes to acceleration.
It will be a seriously impressive number which you consider the already-rapid 4.9 seconds 0-100km/h sprint the flagship 380kW Twin Motor Performance version delivers.
In the future, thanks to the extra efficiency of its next gen 800V electrics Volvo says that it will roll out versions with both smaller batteries and e-motors that will slash weight, boost efficiency and barely compromise on performance.
Volvo has also added more hardware changes when it comes to the EX90’s central ‘superbrain’.

Out goes the current car’s Nvidia Xavier chip and in comes a more sophisticated Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processor that matches the one introduced in the ES90.
Capable of 500 trillion operations per second, the EX90 is finally capable of realising the maximum potential of its state-of-the-art roof-mounted long range LiDAR sensor.
Safety is boosted by both the faster processing and clever LiDAR. The EX90 now able to detect and safely steer away from pedestrians and cyclists in the dark.
If you fall asleep at the wheel or experience a medical emergency the Volvo now knows and will execute a safe and controlled stop.

There have also been improvements to the auto parking.
The extra computing power will allow Volvo to introduce bigger, more important over-the-air software updates in the future.
Volvo promising four major software upgrades per year, as well as a whole host of smaller updates.
Commenting on the new upgrades Volvo’s chief technology and engineering officer Anders Bell said: “The additional computing power enables us to harness the power of AI, data and software to further enhance safety and overall performance of the EX90.
“This means we can provide our customers with advanced safety and driver support features, along with continuous improvements to the infotainment and battery management systems – all delivered seamlessly over the air.”
Timings and full specification for the 2026 Volvo EX90 will come later with an expected price rise already announced for some European regions.
In Australia, the entry-level 300kW Volvo EX90 Plus Twin Motor is priced from $124,990 plus on-road costs, while the more powerful 380kW EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance costs $134,990 (plus ORCs).
